Startup Business Associate | A-Players
About A-Players
A-Players is a premier service company that places high-performing Business Associates with early-stage US tech startups. We don't staff generalists — we match strategic operators with founders who need real execution capacity at the intersection of communication, business development, and client relationships.
Our BAs work directly with C-level executives, often becoming the founder's most trusted communication layer — the person clients, partners, and stakeholders actually hear from.
The Role
This is a client-facing Business Associate role. You'll be embedded with a US startup and work closely with a founder, C-level executive, or head of a function — depending on the placement. The work varies, but the through-line is the same: you represent someone else in interactions that matter.
Client-facing doesn't always mean calls. For some placements it means managing relationships over video and voice. For others it means owning the written communication layer entirely — drafting outreach, handling email threads, preparing proposals, sending updates. What makes it client-facing is that you're the person external stakeholders actually hear from, in whatever format the work requires.
You won't just be running operations. You'll be the voice behind relationships that drive revenue, retention, and trust. The operational side of the job — research, tracking, documentation, scheduling — you'll handle efficiently using AI. That frees your time for what AI can't replace: being human in conversations that matter.
Placements vary. Some BAs focus on customer success and account management. Others support sales pipelines and BD outreach. Some act as communication leads across multiple stakeholder groups. What's consistent: strong communication, commercial awareness, and the ability to represent someone else's vision with confidence.
What You'll Do
Client & stakeholder communication
Serve as the main point of contact with clients, prospects, or partners on behalf of the founder or functional lead
Draft and manage high-impact external communications — outreach, follow-ups, proposals, and updates — in the founder's voice
Run structured check-ins with clients to track satisfaction, surface issues early, and identify expansion opportunities
Handle internal communications across teams, keeping everyone aligned without creating noise
Business development & account support
Support sales and BD workflows — from lead qualification and outreach to pipeline tracking and follow-up coordination
Prepare client-facing materials: onboarding docs, one-pagers, campaign briefs, decks, and status reports
Identify upsell and expansion signals and flag them to the right people with context and recommendations
Coordinate reference requests, client introductions, and stakeholder meetings
Execution & operations (AI-assisted)
Use AI tools to handle research, documentation, drafting, and reporting — fast and accurately
Maintain lightweight CRM hygiene, trackers, and deal documentation so nothing falls through the cracks
Prepare pre-meeting briefs, competitive snapshots, and weekly summaries that give the founder full context before any conversation
Track committed follow-ups and keep stakeholders accountable to next steps
Founder & leadership support
Act as an extension of the founder's or functional lead's bandwidth — anticipating needs, preparing materials, and ensuring no important conversation gets dropped
Translate priorities into clear actions and follow through without hand-holding
Flag risks, blockers, and decisions early — with context, not just alerts
What We're Looking For
Communication & client skills
Strong written and verbal English (C1+) with the ability to adapt tone for different audiences — clients, investors, partners, internal teams
Proven experience in client-facing roles: customer success, account management, sales support, agency work, or similar
Comfortable representing someone else's voice and vision in both written and verbal communication
Naturally builds rapport and keeps relationships warm without over-engineering it
Commercial & strategic thinking
Understands how early-stage startups work — fast-moving, resource-constrained, high-stakes decisions
Commercially oriented: connects communication and relationship work to revenue outcomes and retention
Can synthesize information quickly and surface what actually matters, not just what's happening
Execution & AI proficiency
AI-operator mindset — actively uses tools like Claude, ChatGPT, or Perplexity to do in minutes what would otherwise take hours
Organized, detail-oriented, and reliable: manages multiple clients or workstreams without things slipping
Operates well in ambiguity — makes reasonable judgment calls and flags the rest
Tools & systems
CRM experience: HubSpot, Salesforce, or similar — comfortable managing contacts, pipelines, and deal documentation
Client materials: proficient in Google Slides, PowerPoint, or Canva — can put together clean, structured decks and one-pagers without design support
Google Suite (Docs, Sheets, Gmail, Calendar) as a daily working environment
Nice to have: experience with outreach tools like Apollo or Instantly
A-Players Startup Training Program
Before your first client placement, every BA completes the A-Players Startup Training Program — a focused, self-driven program designed to give you a helicopter view of how US startups actually operate.
The program runs 1–2 weeks depending on your background. You'll work through real startup scenarios across ops, sales, marketing, and BD — not theoretical exercises, but the kind of situations you'll face with a real client. You'll have access to A-Players' internal knowledge base with proven playbooks, templates, and case studies, and you'll receive direct feedback on your work throughout.
The goal is simple: by the time you finish, you should feel genuinely prepared — not just onboarded. Strong performance in the program is what leads to your first client match.
